Eskom and energy and chemical organization, Sasol, have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to "collaboratively explore and research prospective potential liquified natural gas (LNG) requirements".
This can be according to a joint statement by the two companies, following the signing ceremony of the MoU on Friday.
"The collaboration aims to ascertain the likely volumes that South Africa involves to ascertain a practical LNG import industry, along with the enabling infrastructure, and can be facilitated by governing administration-to-authorities relations the place necessary."
"This initiative concentrates on working with fuel for energy generation to deliver critical base load electric power and position gas like a vital enabler of re-industrialisation, even though also ensuring ongoing supply to the industry by unlocking world-wide LNG resources.

The MoU is expected to "explore sourcing gas within South Africa, the Southern African Development Community region, and other parts of the African continent, in addition to evaluating long-term LNG contracting".
